How it works
WaveReveal uses advanced "millimeter wave" (mmWave) radar imaging to detect concealed firearms, addressing limitations of existing Concealed Weapon Detection (CWD) and radar systems. Unlike traditional methods, mmWave technology is portable and cost-effective, utilizing readily available components. One of mmWave’s most powerful advantages is its ability to penetrate materials like clothing, cardboard, and other organic materials while reflecting off metallic objects. This unique capability makes it ideal for detecting concealed firearms, ensuring precision and effectiveness in crowded or complex environments.

In our system, an mmWave scanner module is attached to a drone, allowing for flexible and wide-range scanning from above. As the drone moves through the area, it continuously sends data to a nearby computer system, where the information is processed to detect potential threats. This approach combines ease of deployment with advanced imaging, providing real-time results that help ensure public safety during peaceful protests. I created WaveReveal to address a crucial need in Pakistan, where peaceful protests often arise due to political instability. Growing up, I witnessed how such gatherings can quickly become tense, with risks to public safety despite the peaceful intent. I wanted to find a way to protect protestors without compromising their right to assemble.

WaveReveal emerged as my solution, using mmWave technology to detect firearms non-invasively. This system is designed to enhance safety at protests by alerting security personnel to potential threats before they escalate, helping prevent violence while respecting personal privacy. This project reflects my belief in technology’s power to protect and serve society.

Non-Invasive Security Screening:
mmWave technology allows for screening from a distance, meaning law enforcement or security personnel can detect concealed objects without direct physical searches, making the process less intrusive and faster for large crowds.

Real-Time Threat Detection:
By integrating mm-wave technology into drones or stationary scanners, authorities could detect weapons in real time, enabling rapid responses to potential threats without disturbing peaceful assemblies. Mm-waves can be mounted on drones, stationary scanners or even handheld devices. Drones can fly over detecting the entire crowd. Stationary scanners can placed around entry points or key areas, like near speakers or protest organizers.

Enhancing Public Safety at Large Gatherings:
Beyond protests, this technology could be applied at concerts, festivals, or sports events, where large, crowded spaces have potential safety risks. When combined with AI and other smart surveillance, mm-wave technology could help categorize detected items to focus only on potential weapons, minimizing false alarms and avoiding distractions from benign objects like mobile phones.
